Dazzling Reflections

My theme of choice today is for sure a result of  all the exposure I've had specially to Monet´s paintings at Normandy Impressionist Festival. I promissed in a previous post when I was still there, that I would dedicate a post to the Festival. Well,  I´m not ready for that yet...So much to do, so little time...
Inspired by the Master I went to the pond at Botanic Garden to capture the dancing shapes of water.

São Salvador Square - Praça São Salvador

Bright winter morning.
Nestled between Laranjeiras and Flamengo busy districts in Rio de Janeiro, this square is a real oasis. Early in the morning children come to play, neighbors enjoy the warm winter sun sitting on its benches around the exquisite fountain..
Life here seems to change its pace...
Really a great site to open my easel and capture the bucolic atmosphere on the canvas!

Outeiro da Glória

Nestled on a hill surrounded by a luxurious vegetation, this church calls the attention of the passersby. I've chosen to depict it, this time, bathed by the warm morning light.

Normandy Impressionist Festival

Painting in Normandy

The 2013 edition of the Impressionist Festival takes place all over Normandy, offering exhibitions and multidisciplinary events (music, theatre, dance, etc.)
This year the theme of the Festival is water.Works by the impressionist masters came from several public and private collections from Europe and USA.

The exhibit at Rouen Fine Arts Museum is superb! One hundred works depicting water through the brushes of Monet, Caillebotte, Berthe Morizot, Jongking, Manet, Renoir, Signac...

I intend to dedicate a special post about this in the future.

.

I managed to find a not so quiet spot to set my pochade box and paint at the Quai du Havre yesterday. Very nice weather!

Enseada de Botafogo - Botafogo Cove

I love when one of my paintings find a new home, I specially enjoy when their new owners receive them  and send me feedback like these confirming their appreciation!

This one went to a young couple in Australia:

" We received the painting and we  loved  the final result. It will live in our dining room :) . Everything went smooth and we are very happy!
Thanks once more, when we go to Brazil we´ll schedule a visit to your studio"

Painting at Theatro Municipal

Leaving the studio for plein air painting can be quite an adventure. It takes a lot of exercise on some special skills that have nothing to do with painting. Besides coping with atmospheric conditions we learn to keep focused despite passers by, who sometimes insist on giving unwanted opinions, ask for information or simply feel at ease to stop and talk to you.

My concentration skill was tested this day, downtown, when I was part of the scenery of a short movie that was being shot at my painting location.
It was fun!

Largo do Boticário

Most of the paintings after leaving the studio to find their new homes are not seen by the artist in person anymore, we are left with the pictures, the memory of the process, and that is great.
This one I had the pleasure to meet again after 8 years.

Largo do Boticário - oil on canvas - 1,90x 4,20  metros
This is a difficult painting to photograph beacuse of its dimensions
It is now in exhibition  at Rio de Janeiro Federal University -

Sketching at the Museum

Rio de Janeiro recently has  received a brand new Museum completely dedicated to the Wonderful City.

Right now one of the exhibitions opened is "Rio de Janeiro in Images, a Landscape under Construction".
It is about 400 works depicting a panorama of the collective construction of the city landscape thoughout 19th ,20th  and 21st centuries. There are paintings, photos, and video  instalations. It was wonderful visiting Gustavo Dallara, João Batista da Costa, Bruno Lechowski, Eliseu Visconti, Timotheo da Costa and so many other masters who shared with us their views of the city.
I could not resist sketching in front of those amazing originals!

2012 last pastel strokes - Happy New Year!

Last day of the year , the weather is unbelievably hot in Rio,  too much for plein air painting. So, I went to the studio, the idea was to organize a bit of the mess in order to start fresh the new year.
But I could not resist the appeal of my Christmas poinsettias in a green vase...

So here they are : 2012 Last pastel strokes -
