Carioca Impressions - Solo Show

Solo Show at Castelinho 38 Gallery

Well, the show came to its end and I´ve been working sending paintings to their new homes. Some happy collectors had already received theirs and others will get them soon. It was a great experience to meet old friends, get to know several silent blog followers and be able to join some names to real faces.
It is amazing the feeling of connection brought by art which links people who otherwise would be perfect strangers.

Some collectors and friends

Some paintings are travelling a long distance...

Castelinho38 gallery was a perfect place for this exhibition, a beautiful archtecture in a quiet street of Santa Teresa and a very friendly staff

You can view some other special moments of the exhibit in the slideshow in the sidebar or here

Here is the place where the show will be held, I could not resist this bright morning light hitting the side wall and peaking through the castle towers:

Largo dos Guimarães seen from Almirante Alexandrino street - Santa Teresa

I´m back to my Santa Teresa series of paintings. I´ll post some here as it is more immediate although there are some new ones in my website also at http://www.sandranunes.com/gallery.html

Climbing Almirante Alexandrino street on foot can be a breathtaking experience (pun intended).
We have an astonishing view of Santa Teresa rooftops and Guanabara Bay in the background. The street´s sinuous design is a plus leading our eyes to the tram.

Children´s and Teenagers` Rights

I ´ve been painting in Santa Teresa for a while and I`m associated of Chave Mestra,(Santa Teresa Visual Artists Association), this way I´m getting more and more involved with the community issues.

I was invited to participate of the eighteenth anniversary of the Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente (Law establishing children’s and Teenagers rights).
The event is produced and promoted by a Non Governmental Organization that works with the community of Morro dos Prazeres in Santa Teresa.
The aim of the event is to promote a discussion among the civil society about what has changed as well as what can be done to improve what is not working.

There will be Lectures, debates, workshops and Art exhibition

I accepted the invitation and this is one of the works that will be in the exhibition. This is not like the ones I´m used to post here, but it is enough to go out anytime and we watch to a scene like this:

Arcos da Lapa - Gateway to Santa Teresa

Arcos da Lapa - oil on canvas 46x55cm -Sandra Nunes

This corner in the old downtown area is very inspiring. These arches (old aqueduct) cut the district of Lapa, with its decaying colonial two-story houses, taking the old trams to Santa Teresa.
What moves and intrigues me at this site is the comtemporary atmosphere that reminds us of a romantic time gone by.

Lapa, Joaquim Silva street - Rio de Janeiro downtown
Traditional Bohemian area in Rio de Janeiro, it is nowadays a mix of diverse cultural and artistic manifestations. Here you find places where you listen to typical Afro-Brazilian and luso- Brazilian music - samba, forró, chorinho- as well as hip hop and other world influences. Behind the beaten by time windows, you find bars and restaurants where intelectuals come for a beer and enjoy the "Brazilian Montmarte" atmosphere. This is one of the gateways to Santa Teresa hill.
